Speaker: Lisa Corrente, Torkin Manes LLP

Lisa Corrente is a partner at Torkin Manes LLP.  As part of the firm’s Health Law Group, she advises and represents health care facilities and health professionals. Lisa provides assistance to long-term care homes, retirement homes, group homes, treatment foster homes and other residential facilities with respect to Ministry compliance matters, licensing, professional complaints and discipline proceedings, employment and human rights matters, privacy and requests for access to information, tenancy disputes and issues concerning residents and their family members.

Lisa advises and represents clients with respect to Ministry inspections, Director’s reviews and appeals, civil litigation, responding to complaints, preparation of policies and procedures, drafting of tenancy agreements and employment contracts, negotiating severance packages and the resolution of workplace disputes.  She has appeared before the courts and tribunals including the Licence Appeal Tribunal, Health Services Appeal and Review Board, Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, Human Rights Tribunal, Landlord and Tenant Board, Pay Equity Hearings Tribunal, discipline committees of regulatory colleges, the Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court and Court of Appeal for Ontario.  In 2018, she acted as counsel to a long-term care operator at the Public Inquiry into the murders committed by Elizabeth Wettlaufer.

Lisa also conducts neutral workplace investigations into matters such as policy violations and employee misconduct, resident abuse and neglect, discrimination and harassment, failure to accommodate and reprisals. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Workplace Investigators (CAWI). 

Lisa is the Past Chair of both the Ontario Bar Association’s Health Law Section and Canadian Bar Association’s National Health Law Section.
