OARTY Professional Development and Training

Join us for KIND (Knowledge, Information and Networking Day), OARTY’s annual one day “mini-conference”.  KIND offers a fulsome day of professional development and networking for the child welfare and residential service sectors.  To register, please select the KIND registration tab from the above menu or download the KIND Brochure and Registration Form.

                                               Saba Ferdinands, Director, Children and Youth at Risk Branch
                                              Rose-Anne Sohn, Acting Director, Residential Services Branch

David Remington, Saba Ferdinands and Rose-Anne Sohn from the Child Welfare and Protection Division will attend to provide updates from the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services. This session will include an open dialogue to allow service providers the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to MCCSS.

11:20 AM                           Licensing – A Legal Perspective 
                                               Lisa Corrente, Torkin Manes LLP

Please join Lisa Corrente of Torkin Manes LLP as she offers a legal perspective on residential licensing under the CYFSA. Lisa will discuss her recent involvement in legal proceedings with the Director, including topics such as:

  • issuance and renewals of licenses 
  • imposition of terms and conditions on a licence, including caps on the number of children
  • licence suspensions, revocations and non-renewals 
  • Ministry reviews and monitoring visits 
  • related child protection investigations 
  • appeals to the Licence Appeal Tribunal 
  • case law update

1:15 PM – 2:15 PM         ►  OACAS Shared Services and Other Initiatives
                                                Rosaleen Cutler, Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies

This presentation will explore the Shared Services Project underway in the child welfare sector, as well as other initiatives underway in the area of residential services at OACAS. The use of a shared services approach is focused on creating cost savings, increasing capacity and leading to service improvements while contributing to the sustainability of agencies. Details regarding the project, including the processes involved will be outlined. There will be opportunities for discussion throughout the presentation.

                                      OARTY Board of Directors’ Representatives, OARTY Executive Director

Updates will be provided regarding OARTY’s recent initiatives and projects, including an overview of recent meetings with government and other stakeholders will also be outlined. Members will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the issues impacting them.
