General Program Description
All three Hawk Homes programs accept referrals of children and youth with FAS, FAE, ADHD, Conduct Disorder, PDD, ODD, attachment issues, developmental delays, learning disabilities, aggression, defiance, theft issues, suicidal ideation, running, and sexualized behaviours. Caseworkers utilize behaviour modification and a cognitive behavioural approach in developing an individualized treatment plan for each child. Each resident receives an individualized daily program with well-defined routines and activities designed to assist in developing social skills and life skills.
While most programming is community-based using resources such as the Boys and Girls Club, Lindsay Recreation Complex, GAMIING Centre for Sustainable Lakeshore Living and other resources, Child and Youth Workers within the program facilitate weekly groups focusing on emotion management, life skills and social skills. Residents participate in a summer day program providing numerous recreational activities and educational experiences. The summer program also provides the residents with a family style camping trip that matches the abilities and needs of the participating residents.
